Monster Down The Road

by Rafael Lopes Vivian

So, continuing my series of battlemaps inspired in Tower of Doom... I mean to say first, I hope I'm not spamming this list too much with this series. I figure because it's Tower of Doom/Shadow of Over Mystara there can be interest. Anyway I'm having fun planning this campaign and preparing a bunch of scenarios, while also learning a bit about maps, so I hope others enjoy it too. There are maybe some 6-8 scenarios to go in this particular series.

Anyway... this time, it's one of the paths that picks up from my last post ended, and it has a similar vibe, on the road outdoors, still moving to the Heart of the Republic.

Map was done in Dungeondraft, 40x52 squares 5ft. each, with assets by 2 Minute Tabletop and Daydreams & Tinkering.

Continuing on the path to the heart of the Republic, the group starts to walk the long way downhill from the eastern reaches. And while they get closer to richer land, the road is just not safer here. Gnolls and kobolds are roaming the countryside like they own the place, and don't shy away from combat.

By the end of the day, a girly scream echoes. While the group reaches for their weapons, a child comes to sight from behind the trees, and closing in on her, comes galloping a giant feral manticore. Seeing the group nearby, it smiles and taunts, all too happy to find more fresh meat.

If saved, the girl can be reunited with her group. She is the daughter of a rich merchant in North City. After this, her crew will want to help the group any way they can, parting with food and wine and even defending the group if necessary, and later the group could call in favors with the big man.

If the child dies, the merchant will later comment that he lost a child in the road, who left to fetch water alone and disappeared in the night.
