Wind-Horse Knight (5e Cavalier Fighter)

by Marc Saindon

This is partly inspired by the sixth regiment of the Ochalean Army in the almanachs (100 level 2 Fighters serving as heavy cavalry for each of Ochalea’s 12 divisions). To add some fan-made lore, Ochalea could have a Military Academy in the western-most province of Bohan (see map below), coincidentally make it located at the “west point” of the kingdom. Pun aside, this is because the vast plains of the region allow to supply the cavalry in feed, to best make use of these units, and to keep such a sizeable army in training at a safe distance from the capital of Beitung (as it could be use to make a coup against the throne by ambitious officers). Graduates from the Bohan Military Academy serve as heavy cavalry when mobilized on the field, but also do escorting missions for important government officials, and maintain a postal and delivery system across Ochalea for the military – assignments in which they can encounter bandits and other problems to take care of (leading to adventures as PCs).

The name of Wind Horse is freely from Central Asian culture. It might have been the symbol of a previous ethnic group that the Ochaleans eventually assimilated, with remnants of that culture remaining in the horsemanship traditions and lifestyle not usually encountered in the rest of the more sedentary Ochalea.
